Annual MAP meeting 1996 in Innsbruck, Austria, May 23-24, 1996

MAP enthusiasts and enthusiasts-to-be are invited to participate in the MAP-meeting 1996. It will take place in the vicinity of Innsbruck, in the heart of the Alps, from May 23 - 24, 1996. These two days will provide an opportunity to catch up on ongoing MAP activities, to exchange ideas, and to present one's latest research results related to MAP (orographically influenced precipitation, numerical weather predicition in mountainous terrain, foehn, gravity waves, mesoscale Alpine climatology, boundary layer over complex terrain). In preparation for the field phase of MAP, the annual meeting 1996 will be held jointly with a workshop for forecasters interested in MAP.

Abstracts (not longer than one page) of short presentations or poster displays should be sent to Georg Mayr. The strict deadline for receipt is April 10, 1996, which is very close to the meeting in order for you to be able to present the latest results. Everybody intending to participate should let us know as soon as possible to ease organization. Please, send your notification or abstract including your fax-number, phone-number and e-mail address to Georg Mayr, Institut für Meteorologie und Geophysik, Universität Innsbruck, Innrain 52, A-6020 Innsbruck, Austria, e-mail: Georg.Mayr@uibk.ac.at, fax: +43 512 507 2924.

Further details will be sent by mail and also appear in the MAP Newsletter 4 in spring 1996. We will distribute the program for the meeting at the end of April 1996.

7th Conference on Mesoscale Processes, September 9-13, 1996, Reading, UK

The Seventh Conference on Mesoscale Processes, jointly sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and the Royal Meteorological Society, will be held 9-13 Septem ber 1996, on the campus of the University of Reading. A broad range of topics will be covered including mesoscale aspects of fronts/frontal cyclones, deep convection, grav ity waves, orographic and balanced flows. Special emphasis will be placed on mesos cale studies related to upcoming and recent international field programs (FASTEX, MAP , TOGA COARE).

Potential contributors are invited to submit abstracts and a statement of their presen tation preference (oral or poster) to Bradley Smull by way of email at smull@ncar.ucar.edu; regular surface mail c/o University of Washington, JISAO, Box 354235, Seattle, WA 98195-4235, USA; or express package delivery service to the at tention of Laura Rutledge, c/o University of Washington, JISAO, 4909 25th Avenue NE, Room 105, Seattle, WA 98105 (tel: 206-685-2899).
