Dear colleagues
At the MAP Steering Committee (MSC) Meeting in June 2004, it was noted that a few data producers have recently submitted new surface data sets to the MDC. This happened AFTER the results of the quality control (carried out in the framework of DAQUAMAP) were released. These new data have now, of course, no quality flags. In order to provide data to the MAP community whose quality has been assessed, the following was decided by the MSC:
(i) Producers of MAP-SOP surface data are invited to submit new or corrected data sets to the MDC BEFORE August 31, 2004.
(ii) After August 31, 2004, the overall data quality will be assessed AGAIN using the original DAQUAMAP software; all surface data will be flagged again based on the re-assessment.
(iii) After the new quality assessment and subsequent flagging, the main data base will be FROZEN.
(iv) After August 31, 2004, corrected data can still be supplied to the MDC, however, this data will NOT be incorporated into the main data base. Instead, data delivered after this date will be accessible by all MAP data users, but it will not be flagged and it will be located in a special area. The data available as of August 31 will remain in the main data base even when new data is delivered after this date.
For the MSC and the MDC, with best wishes
Hans Richner
